Sanosaka REPORT

2023.02.08135cm / Light Snow

Snow started falling around 8:00 a.m. this morning and continued on and off with occasional periods of light sunshine. The extremely evenly groomed Carving Slope (pictured) had a well-packed wet snow surface that began to soften up around 9:00 a.m., making it easier to set my edges.

I was greeted by two of the three members of a group from Aichi, Shizuoka, and Gunma prefectures (pictured), who told me, “We love your site. We were quite worried because the slopes were quite hard at the beginning of the morning, but thankfully the slow has loosened up and it’s easier to ski now.” In other news, the “HAKUBA Carving Festival ’23” will be held on the Carving Slope on 2/19 (Sun.), and I will also personally be participating in the event.

I later spoke to a pair of visitors from Aichi Prefecture, who said to me, “We came to Sanosaka using Orion Tours! We weren’t able to ski for a while due to our entrance exams, but now that we’ve finished, we hope to ski a lot more.” By the way, there is an area in front of the Castor Plaza, in the base area, where beginners can practice skiing worry-free.

On the Paradise Slope, where the slope angle playfully alternates between steep and gentle, the groomed surface was composed of moderately firm wet snow. With today being a weekday, there were few people on the slopes, which made it possible to make big sweeping turns at high speed without worrying about my surroundings. Don’t forget, as is the case every week, the 2nd Quad will be closed tomorrow, 2/9 (Thurs.).
