A low-pressure system settled over the southern coast again, and the sleet that was falling in the base area turned into wet snow during my ride up the 2nd Quad. The upper portion of the ski resort (pictured) was covered in thick fog, and I was surprised to see the trees were painted in a thin white layer of rime ice.

The Hiedayama Rinkan Course (first photo) featured a moderately firm, groomed, wet snow surface topped with about 1 cm of new wet new snow that my skis slid well across. The Itadaira Course (pictured) had a slightly firmer groomed, wet snow surface that was also topped with about 1 cm of fresh snow that softened up as I slid down and was noticeably wetter toward the end of the course.

There was a thin layer of fresh snow on the Ipponmatsu Course, which was groomed with moist, granular snow surface. The surface was tinged with a slightly yellow color, perhaps due to Asain Dust or other particles blowing in from the upper atmosphere, but my skis ran well. A snowboarder (pictured) who showed off some nice turns told me, “I love your site. It looks like cold air will be moving back into the area after tomorrow.”

Eventually, around 9:30, the sleet in the base area turned to snow. The grooming machines were at work on the Ikenota Slope (pictured) until just before the resort opening, and there I found a moderately soft, wet groomed snow surface on the first half and moist, granular snow on the second half. I was able to repeat comfortable and controlled turns all the way from the top to the bottom.
