This morning, I spoke with a skier from Aichi Prefecture (pictured), who told me, “I love your site. I came here on a day trip to ski today, expecting that it would be perfectly sunny. It is, and it’s excellent!” The up-close, clear views of the three peaks of the “Hakuba Sanzan” were impressive, and the mountains seemed to have become even whiter after several days of snowfall.

I also enjoyed the sea of clouds (pictured) and diamond dust that were visible at the top of the resort. With clear skies in the forecast, there was a long line of people waiting for the Grat Quad to open, many of who appeared to be heading up above the resort for backcountry skiing or mountaineering. The Riesen Grat Course (pictured) was groomed with a moderately compacted powder snow surface that was very easy to ski.

The Riesen Slalom Course (pictured) had a firmly-groomed, wet snow surface that made for comfortable turns from top to bottom. In other news, the 53rd Hakuba Happo-One Fire Festival will be held tomorrow, 2/17 (Fri.) on the Nakiyama slope starting at 7:30 p.m., and will feature a torchlight ski run, taiko drum performances, fire dancing, demonstration skiing, fireworks, and much more!

The area along the Kurobishi 2 Quad had a moderately firm, groomed wet snow surface with a powdery feel, while the Skyline Course, Kitaone 3 Slope, and Kitaone traverse cat track had an even firmer, groomed wet snow surface. The Sakka Slope (pictured) also featured moderately firm, groomed wet snow, and all the groomed courses throughout the resort were in good condition.
