I was expecting hard-packed slopes due to yesterday’s rain, but when I checked out the live camera at Tsugaike, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the rain had turned to snow overnight. As I was getting off the gondola, the anticipation of riding fresh powder was reaching a fever pitch! Sure enough, it felt great to cut through the 10 cm of new snow that covered the moderately firm, groomed snow surface on the top half of the Han-no-ki Slope (pictured).

Although I occasionally bottomed out on the underlying base of the steep, ungroomed slope located towards the middle of Han-no-ki (pictured), I heard plenty of people around me exclaiming how good the 20 or so centimeters of new snow felt. Winds were blowing strongly from the north, and the densely falling snow intensified even more around 9:30 a.m.

The well-packed, groomed wet snow surface of the Kane-no-naru-oka Slope (pictured) was a big hit, especially with beginners. In other news, TG PARKS, which originally had been located alongside the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair Lift, was moved to the area alongside Han-3 and has been open since 2/16 (Wed.). (*The advanced course will be closed from 2/22 (Wed.) to 2/25 (Sat.) for the All-Japan Junior Competition.)

I spoke briefly with a snowboarder from Matsumoto, who told me, “I love your site! The ungroomed area under the Han-no-ki High-Speed No. 3 Quad was nice and fluffy.” The groomed Maruyama Slope (pictured) had a well-packed, wet snow surface with about 3 cm of fresh snow on top.
