This morning, I ran into two people hiking up the Satomi Central Slope heading for the No. 9 Pair. One of them, a local from Otari Village (pictured right), told me, “I love your site! We got quite a bit of snow, didn’t we? I sure hope the No. 10 Pair Lift is able to operate today…” Her Scottish friend (pictured, left) added, “I stay at Tsugaike and enjoy JAPOW every winter. I’m a fan of Snownavi as well!”

After a warm weekend, the cold and snow returned with a vengeance yesterday and today. A patrolman, after checking the course, informed us, “Sky View looks good! We are going to start up the No. 10 Pair Lift today!” As he said that, the visitors lined up for the No. 9 Pair let out a loud cheer, and not long after, the line for the No. 10 Pair Lift extended as far as the landing area of the No. 9 Pair Lift.

There were occasional strong gusts of wind from the north that blew the snow around at the top of the resort. I was surprised to find the amount of new snow on the Sky View Slope (pictured) was as much as 70 cm! The fresh, fluffy powder provided excellent floating and fantastic feel.

As visitors got off the No. 10 Pair Lift and dropped in for runs on the smooth, untouched powder, they were greeted with cheers and shouts of joy from people on the lift. It was a full-on “powder festival” at Hakunori and Cortina, which were both blessed with a massive snowfall today. The sun came out briefly around 10:00 a.m., but the snow started to fall intensely again soon after.
