Happo-one REPORT

2023.02.22310cm / Partly Cloudy

The officially announced base has once again exceeded the 300 cm mark. This morning the entire Hakuba area was frozen as if it had been placed in a freezer, the roads at the foot of the mountain were dangerously slick, and extremely dry snow flurries were falling lightly. As a reminder, restrictions are currently in place on Riesen and the area along the Shirakaba 2 Pair for the Riesen Slalom Competition that will be held tomorrow and the day after, as well as the HAPPO BANKED SLALOM even on 2/25 (Sat.).
[Panorama Course]

Today, the ungroomed areas had about 10 cm of amazing, fresh fluffy snow. The groomed areas alongside the Kurobishi 2 Quad (pictured) and on the Panorama Course and the southern route of Usagidaira had moderately soft powder snow surfaces thanks to the snow that had fallen from the evening of 2/19 (Sun.) until yesterday, 2/22 (Wed.). Those conditions made it easy to set and maintain edge control.
[Kurobishi Slope]

Interestingly enough, the overwhelming majority of people went into the ungroomed areas along the Kurobishi 3 Pair, Skyline 2 Pair (pictured), and Urakuro first thing this morning. The combination of the soft base and around 10 cm of light fresh snow that topped it off was excellent, and I was able to link controlled, comfortable turns without any concern for the occasionally uneven base.
[Skyline Course]

Conditions were tough on the steep slope on Kitaone, with about only 5 cm of fresh snow on top of the prominent, hard-packed moguls marking the surface. On the Kitaone forest road, Sakka Wave and Sakka Slope (pictured), the evenly-groomed slope surfaces were a mix of powder and wet snow. It wasn’t long into the day when the clouds that had been hanging over the sun began to melt away, bringing sunshine to the slopes.
