As of 6:40 this morning, it was a windless start to the day with the temperature sitting at a brisk -14 degrees Celsius. I was mesmerized by the beautiful views from National Route 18 of the morning sun lighting up Mt. Kurohime (pictured) on this clear day. After a warm weekend (2/18-19), the cold weather returned on 2/20 (Mon.), and plenty of good-quality snow fell up until 2/22 (Wed.).

I spoke with a staff member (pictured) with several dogs, who told me, “We’re here to shoot a video introducing the recently-renewed leash-free course. I really hope a lot of people will bring their dogs out to visit us.” The new course can be accessed through the dog run, whereas before it was necessary to travel through an ungroomed area off of the Dog Course.
[Leash-Free Course]
I had a chat with a family from Suzaka City in Nagano Prefecture, that told me, “We come here often because we can bring our dogs (pictured) with us.” At the dog run, located above the landing area of the No. 7 Pair Lift (also known as the “SNOW DOG LIFT”), dogs could be seen running around joyfully on the fields of snow. In other news, the “Wan-Wan Shot Event” will be held on 3/11 (Sat.) and 3/12 (Sun.).
[Dog Run]
Today the groomed Dog, Leo, Blackbird, Mouse, and Monkey courses, as well as the KUROHIME FAMILY PARK, all had powder snow surfaces that ranged from moderately firm to soft. The Dog course in particular was very beginner-friendly, with an especially soft finish that did not hurt at all even if you fell down. There I heard lots of laughter from the students enjohing their ski school lessons.
