The ON SNOW JAM 2023 event, where visitors can try out snowboards and snow skates, try on outerwear, shoes, and more, and purchase or reserve products, is being held at Ninja on 2/25 (Sat.) and 2/26 (Sun.). A staff member told me, “We are excited to have more stalls than the 27 we had last year. We are also planning a rock-paper-scissors tournament for prizes including cash and season tickets for next year.”

Again this year a special “yuki-ita” course (pictured) was been constructed where visitors can test out yuki-ita for free. It was my first time to do so since I was too scared to give it a try last year. It was different from a standard snowboard with edges, and difficult, but once I got used to it and could ride it better, I found it quite fun.

The Drago Course (pictured) had a well-packed, groomed wet snow surface. The wide Drago slope is also home to the “REWILD Park.” There was a hike-up area at the top with items for beginners to practice on, such as a wide box and 3-meter kicker, and a 5-meter kicker, 3-meter kicker, down rail, rainbow box, bank, and wave on the bottom half of the course.

The Nirei and Shinko runs, accessed from the REWILD lift at the back of the photo, were a beautiful site with their larch forests tinted with rime ice. The well-packed “powdery” wet snow on the groomed Nirei Course made for technical conditions on the mogul lanes, which occupy about half of the bottom of the run. The snow that had been falling since the morning stopped around 10:00 a.m., but started to fall again around 12:00 pm.
