This morning, I spoke with a father (pictured) from Aichi Prefecture, who told me, “I’m a big fan of Snownavi! I love Hakunori’s Satomi Central Slope and have been coming here for years. This is my 17th day this season, but it’s my kids’ first. It was the second consecutive day of clear, mild weather perfect for skiing and snowboarding.

An instructor (pictured, right) for the Warabidaira Ski School, a branch of the Cortina Ski School, spoke with me and said, “This boy (pictured, left) joined our lesson because his parents are snowboarders and aren’t able to teach him skiing. He’s made great progress in the past three days.” Afterward, I watched as the student boy skied smoothly down the well-maintained waves and banks with ease.

The first half of the Highway Course (pictured), which was directly exposed to the morning sun, had a moderately firm, groomed granular snow surface that had softened up to the point of being slushy. The second, north-facing half of the Highway Course was also groomed with a moderately packed, granular snow surface. The snow there was holding together, and conditions were good for comfortable turns.

I was greeted by a snowboarder from Osaka and a married couple from Hakuba (pictured), who told me they love the Snownavi site, had just skied over to Hakunori from Cortina, and were heading to the Wakaguri Central Slope. The soft, groomed granular snow surfaces of the Satomi Central Slope (pictured) and Wakaguri Central Slope were both beginning to loosen up on this warm, spring-like morning.
