The snow that fell yesterday during the day and into the late evening hours had come to a stop by this morning, and the fresh snow, clear skies, and lack of wind made today THE DAY. The steep, ungroomed slope along the Kurobishi 3 Pair (pictured) had around 30 to 35cm of fresh, fluffy snow! I did occasionally bottom out on the crusty surface of the underlying base, but still thoroughly enjoyed the feel and float of the fresh powder.

I later spoke with the first snowboarder in line for the lift this morning (pictured), who told me, “I bottomed out a few times, but it was still great!” I heard others around exclaiming that the snow was amazing and felt so good. The Skyline Course had a hard, granular snow surface, but the ungroomed area was covered with 20 to 25 cm of new, fluffy snow.

The groomed snow along the Kurobishi 2 Quad was wonderfully skiable powder! The top half of the groomed portion of the Skyline Course was also powder, while the last part was a mix of well-packed fresh snow and granular snow. There was 10 to 15cm of fresh snow covering the hardpacked uneven base of the ungroomed Olympic Course II (pictured), where beautiful tracks were being drawn across the mountain face.

The Kitaone forest road course had a firmly groomed snow surface that was composed of more and more granular snow snow as I descended. The Sakka Wave had a firmly-groomed, coarse snow surface, while the groomed granular snow on the Sakka Slope (pictured) and Shirakaba Slope was slightly softer. All were in good condition and easy to ski.
