There were impressive views of Mt. Goryu (pictured) and the peaks of the Ushiro-Tateyama Mountain Range early this morning, but the eastern sky was full of clouds that rolled across the sun, alternately casting sun and shade across the Alps-Daira area. When the clouds cleared around 9:00 a.m., the sun began to shine uninterrupted and the temperature rose quickly.

The exquisitely-groomed Grand Prix Course (pictured) and Panorama Course had well-packed, wet snow surfaces. The edges of my skis sunk into the snow surface, and I was able to link controlled, comfortable turns. I observed a number of skiers making sharp, snappy turns and lapping the area via the Alps 3rd and 4th Chair Lifts.

In the area along the Alps 4th Pair, a local racing team was practicing slalom runs. As I skied down toward the base of the mountain, the outermost layer of the firm, groomed granular snow surface of the Dynamic Course had begun to soften up. On the other hand, the Woody Course, which is more shaded, had a moderately-packed, groomed granular surface that held firmer, longer.

The Powder Snow Course (pictured) was groomed with a hard, granular snow surface in the morning, but began to turn to slush as of 9:00 a.m. In other news, the 21st Annual Mt. Fuji Able Hakuba Goryu Ski and Snowboard Ski Championships will be held this weekend, on 3/11 (Sat.), at the Iimori Slope.
