This morning I spoke with two people from Nagano’s Ueda City, who told me, “We came to Kumanoyu since the snow looked good, and it was the right decision! The slopes are in excellent shape! And we met a reporter from Snownavi, so it’s a perfect day! …Oh, please take lots of pictures because we’ll buy them.” The early morning temperature was a chilly -10°C, but later on the weather was sunny and pleasant.

The First Pair Lift got going at 8:15, followed by the Second Pair at 8:25, and the Third Quad at 8:45. It was moderately firm powder snow conditions along the First Pair on both the Shirakaba Course (first photo) and First A Course, where tracks from yesterday’s night skiing still remained. On the Second Beginner Course, there is a slalom course (“pole run”) set up where anyone can measure their times. “I used it for the first time and thought it was fun,” said a skier who tried it.

At the off ramp of the Third Quad (pictured), I noticed a number of people taking pictures of Mt. Kasagatake (2,076 meters), a symbol of Shiga Kogen, with their smart phones before skiing on. The Umanose Course also had moderately packed powder snow overall, while the area from the Rinkan Course to the Third Beginner Course (pictured) also had the same ideal conditions!

I had a conversation with the father (pictured, left) and son (pictured, right) of a family from Ishikawa Prefecture, with the father telling me, “I love your site. Yesterday we skied the heck out of the Expert Course at Okushiga. Today we’re going ot take it easy here at Kumanoyu.” Kumanoyu as a whole today had a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, with many families and groups.
