It’s been an uninterrupted string of warm, sunny days since 3/3 (Fri.). After enjoying the scenery of the Northern Alps and the view of the resort from the No. 3 Quad (pictured), I spoke with a skier from Nagoya City, in Aichi Prefecture, who told me, “What a wonderfully refreshing, sunny day. The groomed slopes feel great.”

The Rabbit Course (pictured) and Ipponmatsu Course were both groomed with well-packed granular snow and soft outermost surfaces that made it easy to set an edge and ski comfortably and in control. An instructor with the Cortina Ski School excitedly told me that the Ipponmatsu Course felt great.

A member of the resort staff wearing short sleeves commented, “It’s hot, I’m going to get a sunburn if I’m not careful.” The Hiedayama Rinkan Course was groomed with a well-packed mixture of wet and granular snow. On the Itadaiora Course (pictured), which was in the sunlight, the groomed granular snow surface had begun to soften and turn slushy.

The Ikenota Slope (pictured) was also easy to ski, as here too the surface layer was softening up from the start of the day. Four students from Shizuoka Prefecture told me that they were enjoying skiing on their spring break, and that it was easy to drive here since there was no snow on the road. In fact, the Ikenota Slope was bustling with a significant number of students and other groups.
