This morning, I spoke with a woman (pictured, right) from Matsumoto City, who told me, “I check Snownavi from time to time. I’m guiding a friend (pictured, left) from Nagano who is new to Cortina. We’re going to ski a few groomed runs and see how it goes before maybe heading into the tree area.” The groomed Hiedayama Rinkan Course (pictured) was easy to ski, with a moderately soft, granular snow surface.

The sun was shining, but there was a spring-like haze in the sky, possibly due to the presence of Asian Dust. It was already warm at the start of business, and the groomed Ikenota Slope and Ipponmatsu Course (pictured) both had granular snow surfaces with a thick layer of loose surface snow from the start of the day. My edges sunk deep into the surface, but my skis still slid well.

The sun-exposed, groomed Itadaira Course (pictured) had a slushy, coarse snow surface that quickly filled up with deep tracks, but I was able to make the turns I wanted without issue

I spoke with a family from Tokyo, who told me, “We’ve checked out the Snownavi site before. We’re staying at the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba and are skiing until tomorrow. The slopes are soft, and it doesn’t hurt to fall, so it’s good for kids to practice!” Being a sunny weekend day, the crowds were out and courses throughout the resort were bustling with the energy of the many families and groups.
